Prof. (Dr.) Arkopal K. Goswami is the Chairperson of the Ranbir & Chitra Gupta School of Infrastructure Design and Management (RCGSIDM) at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kharagpur. He holds a Ph.D. in Civil Engineering from the University of Virginia, USA, and has extensive experience in urban transportation planning, multimodal mobility, transport analytics, and sustainable infrastructure development. Before joining IIT Kharagpur, he worked at BITS Pilani, Hampton Roads Transportation Planning Organization (USA), and County of Loudoun (USA), contributing to major transportation and infrastructure projects.

His research focuses on sustainable transport planning & policy, travel behavior analysis, urban mobility systems, AI-driven road safety solutions, transport emissions modeling, and transit-oriented development (TOD). He has led and collaborated on several national and international projects, including TUTEM (ADB-funded), SAFAR (AI-driven road safety), and Integrated Land Use-Transport-Emissions Modeling (SPARC, IIT KGP & University of Leeds).

Dr. Goswami has authored 100+ research publications in leading international journals and has been actively involved in transport policy advisory roles. He is a member of the Indian Road Congress (IRC) Technical Committee on Urban Roads, an expert advisor to the Ola Mobility Institute, and a former member of the Transportation Research Board (TRB), USA. He has received several prestigious awards, including the Faculty Excellence Award at IIT Kharagpur (2022) and the Erasmus Fellowship at TU Munich (2024).

He is also actively engaged in teaching and capacity building, serving as a course instructor for SWAYAM-NPTEL and organizing global research collaborations with institutions such as TU Munich, University of Leeds, and IITs. Dr. Goswami continues to contribute to advancing sustainable, equitable, and efficient urban mobility solutions through his research, teaching, and industry collaborations.
