Background: 

The Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur (IIT Kharagpur) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the University of Leeds (UoL), marking a significant milestone in their strategic partnership. Recognizing the growing global importance of India and the shared commitment to academic excellence, this collaboration aims to foster enhanced academic and research cooperation. 

Through this MoU, both institutions will jointly supervise PhD programs in the fields of Civil Engineering, Transport Studies, and Biological Sciences, leveraging their combined expertise and resources. This partnership not only strengthens the academic bond between IIT Kharagpur and the University of Leeds but also paves the way for pioneering research and innovation, contributing to global knowledge advancement.

Program Overview

The IIT Kharagpur - University of Leeds Joint PhD Program is a prestigious, time-bound research program designed to be completed within 4 years. This collaborative initiative offers fully funded scholarships, providing an exceptional opportunity for students to pursue cutting-edge research with guidance from renowned faculty at both institutions.

• Portal for Student Applications: Opening Soon

• Application Duration: Approximately 1 month

• Selection Process:

  • Two Levels of Selections

  • Final Interviews and Presentations: Scheduled around April-May of the following year

  • Award Notification: Within a month after the final interview​
